Detectives from the Minneapolis Police financial crimes unit, working in conjunction with the Minnesota Department of Commerce insurance fraud division, were also looking for evidence that Best Care billing clients at higher rates by inflating the expertise level of the nurses doing home visits.
“If you’re expecting an Registered Nurse to be at your home, and you’re getting the services of a Licensed Practical Nurse, you’re not really getting what you’re paying for,” Lt. Sporny remarked.
The business, a few blocks east of the University of Minnesota campus, shares a building with a massage parlor and is located next to a computer parts and repair store. A woman approached the building, saying she had been hired as a personal care assistant a few days earlier and was stopping by to fill out paperwork.
