April 30, 2009: Three buildings on the West Bank campus were shut down after officials received information about a shooting threat.
Jan. 26, 2008: A student invited three acquaintances to his Centennial Hall dorm room about 4:20 p.m. One flashed a handgun. The student was threatened and robbed but not injured.
Nov. 4, 2007: A man stopped a student at Delaware Street and 25th Avenue for directions. As the student helped, the man showed a gun. The gunman ran when he saw two people approach.
What To Do
University of Minnesota police suggest the following when threatened:
If there’s a weapon, it’s best not to resist. Personal safety is more important than a wallet or cell phone.
Be aware of your surroundings.
Walk in well-lit areas, and don’t walk alone. If you can’t find someone to walk with, call the Campus Escort service.
