According to the complaint, Hampton and another man opened fire on a home near E 28th Street and Stevens Avenue South. The document states that Hampton was beaten up at the home a few weeks before the shooting and returned seeking revenge.
Police believe at least one bullet hit a nearby home and at least two bullets hit the bus.
Three elementary school students and a driver were on the bus. One bullet lodged between the driver and her seat. A 9-year-old boy’s arm was scratched by flying glass. No one in the home was hurt.
According to the criminal complaint, a witness picked Hampton out of a lineup and a gun was found during a search of the hotel room where he was staying.
Hampton had a prior conviction for promotion prostitution and therefore was not allowed to own a gun.
