Former Asst. Hennepin County attorney charged in high-end prostitution ring
ST. PAUL, Minn.– A former assistant Hennepin County attorney is charged with six felony counts of promoting prostitution, for allegedly running a high-end call girl ring for wealthy clients.
The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office says 66 year-old John Paul St. Marie of Minneapolis operated a website that advertised prostitution services. A criminal complaint alleges that St. Marie set up appointments for prostitutes with men he called “nice guys” whom he claimed were safe and would pay well.
Minneapolis Police began investigating St. Marie’s activities two years ago after receiving information from an informant who had hired prostitutes. Investigators conducted surveillance at various Minneapolis hotels between August 2008 and May 2009. Several patrons were arrested and stated that St. Marie had arranged for them to meet with prostitutes, the complaint says.
A search warrant was executed at St. Marie’s home on May 22, 2009. Investigators observed St. Marie at his computer, working on a schedule for prostitution appointments.
