(AP) — A 34-year-old Columbia Heights man is charged with promoting the prostitution of a 17-year-old girl — after a hotel manager found information about the man’s escort service online. Samuel Cozart was charged Thursday in Ramsey County. According to the complaint, Cozart approached a man in the Days Inn Hotel in Roseville on Tuesday and asked where he could get fake identification for a girl staying with him. The man happened to be the boyfriend of a hotel employee. So he told the hotel manager, who went online to investigate. The complaint says the manager found information about an escort service it seemed Cozart was running, and went to police. Cozart’s attorney was in court Thursday and did not return a phone message seeking comment.

Fridley pair charged with luring girl into prostitution

St. Paul, Minn. — Ramsey County authorities have charged a man from Fridley and his St. Paul girlfriend with luring an Iowa girl into prostitution.
Charges against Tyree Jones and Bionca Mixon say Jones lured the girl from Des Moines over the internet, then kept her against her will and forced her into prostitution. Investigators found that the girl also had Asperger’s syndrome and was developmentally disabled.
Court documents say that the pair took the girl to a restaurant to celebrate her 18th birthday, knowing she’d been a minor when they sent her bus fare for the trip from Iowa to Minneapolis last month.

The pair faces three felony prostitution-related counts, including a child sex-trafficking charge.

A Fridley man and a St. Paul woman have been charged with luring a developmentally delayed 17-year-old girl from Iowa to be prostituted in Minnesota.
The girl, who turned 18 in late January, was forced to have sex with 30 men before she called police Jan. 31, according to charges filed Thursday in Ramsey County District Court.
Tyree E. Jones, 18, is charged with solicitation to practice prostitution, promotion of prostitution and engaging in sex trafficking. Jones’ girlfriend, Bionca E. Mixon, 22, faces the same charges.
According to the complaint: The girl met Jones on a social website and ran away from Iowa to Minnesota on Jan. 25. The girl, who has Asperger syndrome and is at the developmental stage of a 13-year-old, lived with Jones and Mixon.

The criminal complaint states that St. Cloud police first discovered one of the young prostitutes at a motel after a delivery person reported seeing a bruised girl in the room with an older man. Police identified Karon but the girl, then 16, told officers she had been staying with him for two weeks and they were not having sex. Police returned her to Minneapolis as a runaway case.

They arrested her and then Karon, who was driving by the scene, for driving with a suspended license. They recovered his cell phone, which revealed photos of him with several other young girls.

While checking the girl’s warrant status, “her two phones rang multiple times,” and among the dozens of recent text messages were “terms that tended to be associated with prostitution,” the complaint said.

He said he would not prosecute the girl. That decision is in accordance with his pledge, announced last February, to treat teenage prostitutes not as delinquents but as victims in need of services. The other county attorneys in the Twin Cities area also took part in that pledge.
